Dear Friends,
As I sit here, trying to decide how to share my recent experiences with
you, I find myself continuously singing the song “How Great is Our God.” Do we truly know how great He is? Do we tell him how great He is? Do we look back on our lives and see all he has brought us through?
Tuesday afternoon our medical team went out to visit a village. We had
never been to this village before, and decided only the night before that we
would take medical supplies there. As soon as we arrived people from the village lined up at the door. One of our nurses came in to where the Doctor and I were and just simply said “I have a man with a wound, I really need you to take a look at it.” We brought the 26 year old man into the school house where we were working and began to assess his wound. The more we looked at it, the more we realized how badly this situation could have been. The young man began to tell us how he received so many injuries.
One night this young man was beat up by a few men who were trying to steal his motorcycle. The men shot him twice, once in the head and once in the abdomen. However, the young man did not die, and because of this, the men tried to burn him. This horrible crime took place at approximately 1 A.M, but the young man was not found until 4 A.M. Afterwards, he spent 20 days in the hospital, and still has his jaw wired shut. His stay in the hospital was lifesaving; however, they did not tend to the burn on his leg. When we saw him, his leg was infected, flies swarmed him, and he could hardly walk. This poor soul was living in so much pain. We proceeded with a 90 minute procedure to clean his wound. As I took off all the old, infected skin, ladies from our group
jumped in to help the best they could. I had a young girl sitting across from me fanning flies away and praying continuously, and an amazing woman who wrapped her arms around this hurt man and began to sing him songs about our Savior.
Yesterday a small group of us went back to that young man’s house. We sat with him, shared scripture, prayed and tried to reveal to him the love and faithfulness of our Savior. Though this man is not a Christian, he allowed us to stand at his bedside and tell him of a love we know that overcomes all evil. We told the man that he is alive today, because the Lord has a plan for his life, I
told him how lucky he is, and the only reason he is with us today is because the army of Angels God placed around him that morning. He became very open, saying he knew God kept him alive, that he knew God was with him.
You see, I do not tell you this story for any other reason, than for you to see the grace, mercy and protection of our God. That young man, medically, should have died that night. But he had something way more powerful than the bullets and fire those men used. He had the arms of Jesus Christ wrapped around him, protecting him. I don’t know if or how often I will see that young man again, but there is one thing I do know, and that is MY GOD is great. He redeems us, saves us, he heals our scars, broken hearts, physical pain, emotional stress and relieves our never ending fear. From the second I heard this man’s story, I began to TRULY understand the words “How Great is Our God.”
My friends, we may never suffer a traumatic experience such as this, but no matter what scars we wear, or how hurt we are, our God is great. He is waiting every single day for us to come to him. He has a plan for each life. And even in the midst of trauma, broken heartedness, sickness, loss and fear, we have to remember that God blesses those who forgive, sacrifice and rejoice in their sufferings, not those who do evil and turn their head from him. May we truly run the race with perseverance, not surrendering to our own hurt or fear. And PRAISE GOD that he loves and protects us every single moment of every single day.
I ask that you continue to pray for this young man. He will be recovering for quite some time. I know the power of prayer and believe that we can bring healing and restoration of this man’s heart. Thanks you in advance for your prayer!!!
The Splendor of the King clothed in majesty. Let all the earth
rejoice, all the earth rejoice.
He wraps himself in light, and darkness tries to hide, and trembles at his voice,
trembles at his voice.
Age to age he stands and time is in his hands, beginning and the
end, beginning and the end.
The God head three in one, Father, Spirit, Son. The Lion and the
Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb.
He’s the name above all names. He is worthy of all praise, my
heart will sing “How Great, is our God.”
How great is our God, How great is our God, and all will see How
great… How great, is Our God.
